Part 17. Leviathan.
Biblical prophecies contain many references to a large and
terrifying sea monster, the leviathan.
The most detailed description of it is found here
Job 41:1-34
1. Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a
cord which thou lettest down?
2. Canst thou put a hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through
with a thorn?
3. Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft
words unto thee?
4. Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a
servant forever?
5. Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him
for thy maidens?
6. Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him
among the merchants?
7. Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with
fish spears?
8. Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
9. Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down
even at the sight of him?
10. None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to
stand before me?
11. Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is
under the whole heaven is mine.
12. I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely
proportion.
13. Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to
him with his double bridle?
14. Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round
about.
15. His scales are his
pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
16. One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17. They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they
cannot be sundered.
18. By his sneezes a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the
eyelids of the morning.
19. Out of his mouth go
burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
20. Out of his nostrils
goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
21. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
22. In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy
before him.
23. The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in
themselves; they cannot be moved.
24. His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the
nether millstone.
25. When he raiseth up
himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
26. The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the
dart, nor the habergeon.
27. He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
28. The arrow cannot make
him flee: slingstones are turned with
him into stubble.
29. Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a
spear.
30. Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things
upon the mire.
31. He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a
pot of ointment.
32. He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep
to be hoary.
33. Upon earth there is
not his like, who is made without fear.
34. He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the
children of pride
We have a
description of an extremely strong, fearsome and seemingly terrifying beast
that inhabits the sea (ocean). It must be a huge sea monster, or sea beast.
Who is it?
Why did God create it?
Many believe
that God specifically created it as His adversary, so that He could later
battle it and thus reveal His power and glory. This is doubtful, since no
created being can even partially resist the Creator's power.
These
prophecies provide the basis for this:
Psalms 74:14. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in
pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the
wilderness
Isaiah 27:1.
In that day the LORD with his sore
and great and strong sword shall punish
leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he
shall slay the dragon that is in the sea
Essentially,
we have a description of a beast with at least two heads.
The
description of Leviathan in the Book of Job is completely different.
In fact,
these are prophecies of God's victory over the Antichrist on Judgment Day, when
the Lord will return to earth for the second time.
In
confirmation of this, the Antichrist is also identified with a formidable sea
monster with seven heads and ten horns.
Revelation 13:1. And I stood upon the
sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and
ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of
blasphemy. 2. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet
were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the
dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority
the piercing serpent is the head - the
Antichrist.
the
crooked serpent is the tail - the
false prophet (the Antichrist's assistant).
“and
gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness”- Their death is in Israel, on the
day of the coming of Christ.
Isaiah 64:10. Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness,
Jerusalem a desolation
Isaiah 9:14. Therefore the LORD
will cut off from Israel head and tail,
branch and rush, in one day
Revelation 19:19. And I saw the beast,
and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war
against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20. And the
beast was taken, and with him the
false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them
that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image.
These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21. And the remnant were slain with the sword of
him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all
the fowls were filled with their flesh
It's important to understand that the real sea serpent,
Leviathan, described in
the book of Job, has no connection to the Antichrist (sea beast).
It is truly a fearsome and powerful sea monster, with an
important mission in the last days.
Psalms 104:25.
So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both
small and great beasts. 26.
There go the ships: there is that
leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein
Job 41: 31.
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he
maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. 32.
He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. 33. Upon earth there is not his like, who is made
without fear. 34.
He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride
The beast
Leviathan is hidden under the waters of the sea and rests in them until the
last days.
Job 7:12.
Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?
Job 3(NET):8Let those who curse the day curse it - those who are prepared to rouse Leviathan
He will
awaken to the clamour and anger of those who curse the Lord on the day of His
coming, and will gather to fight against Him.
In the last
days, he will fulfill his important, planned task: to destroy the fleet of the
Antichrist and all those who attempt to hide in the depths of the waters and
flee the Lord's wrath on the day of His coming.
Amos 9:2. Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: 3. And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence;
and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them
No one will
escape the Lord's wrath on Judgment Day. Not on a spaceship, not in a
submarine, not in the depths of the earth. No technology will save anyone. Everything
has been prepared. No sinner will escape punishment, neither rich nor poor.
God will
bring to judgment everyone who has not repented of their sins.
Only
repentance and faith in the Lord will save us.
