Part 12. Gog of Magog.
Isaiah 5:26. And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly: 27. None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken: 28. Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind: 29. Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it. 30. And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof
This topic will focus exclusively on Gog as the
Antichrist of the end times (days). The key prophecy in understanding the
precise location of the Antichrist's kingdom is precisely this:
Daniel 8:9. And out of one
of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the
south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. 10. And it waxed
great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the
stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. 11. Yea, he magnified himself even
to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and
the place of his sanctuary was cast down
Pay special attention to words: «which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land» - the geographic location of the country of the Antichrist, who in the end times will mock the Temple of God in Jerusalem. It will be a very large country, stretching far to the east, south, and close to Israel itself.
The USSR, and the The Commonwealth of Independent
States (CIS) in particular, fit this description perfectly. Furthermore, it is
about a large northern state, the very northernmost one, at the edge of the
earth.
Here are other examples from previous articles about
the northern state of the Antichrist.
Isaiah 18:1. Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is
beyond the rivers of Ethiopia: 2. That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in
vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a
people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden
down, whose land the rivers have spoiled! 3. All ye inhabitants of the
world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the
mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye. 7. In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a
people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning
hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have
spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion
This prophecy
provides additional details about the geographic location of the Antichrist's
kingdom. Important words «whose land the rivers have spoiled».
Look at the map of Russia above, notice the rivers
that literally cut the entire country into pieces. Verse 7 is the Armageddon, Judgment
Day. «…the present
be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people… to the place
of the name of the LORD of hosts, the
mount Zion» - the complete destruction
of the pagan kingdoms gathered by the Antichrist in the valley of Megiddo and
up to the holy Mount Zion because of their greatest multitude, which had not
existed since the beginning of the creation of the world.
Once again, an important prophecy of Daniel about the CIS:
Daniel 2:40. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron:
forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that
breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise. 41. And whereas thou
sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there
shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron
mixed with miry clay. 42. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and
part of clay, so the kingdom shall be
partly strong, and partly broken. 43. And whereas thou sawest iron mixed
with miry clay, they shall mingle
themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another,
even as iron is not mixed with clay.
The kingdom is divided into tribes, the tribes of the northern kingdoms.
Jeremiah 1:15. For, lo, I will call
all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the
LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the
entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round
about, and against all the cities of Judah. 16. And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me,
and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own
hands
Isaiah 41:25 I have raised
up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall
he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the
potter treadeth clay
Isaiah 42:13. The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall
stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail
against his enemies
Jeremiah 4:6. Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not:
for I will bring
evil from the north, and a great destruction
Jeremiah 6:22. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth. 23. They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion. 24. We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail. 25. Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side
Horses refer to tanks or any other military vehicle or
mechanism. Bows, spears, and swords are also references to modern weaponry. No
prophet of that time, seeing such weaponry, could have correctly named or described
it, and of course, the metaphorical comparison was made with the description of
the weapons familiar to the prophets during their lifetimes.
Jeremiah 30:7. Alas! for
that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's
trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. 8. For it shall come to pass in that
day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and
will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him: 24.
The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until
he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it
Ezekiel 38:1. And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2. Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3. And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 4. And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 5. Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: 6. Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee
7. Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them
8. After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. 9. Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. 10. Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: 11. And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, 12. To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. 13. Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil? 14. Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? 15. And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army
16. And thou shalt come up against my people of
Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I
will bring thee against my land, that the
heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their
eyes. 17. Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old
time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many
years that I would bring thee against them? 18. And it shall come to pass at
the same time when Gog shall come
against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in
my face. 19. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken,
Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; 20. So that
the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the
field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that
are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains
shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall
fall to the ground. 21. And I will call for a sword against him
throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man's sword shall be
against his brother. 22. And I will plead against him with pestilence and with
blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people
that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and
brimstone
Gog, the
Antichrist, will come in the last days upon the mountains of Israel. God will
gather all His armies in one vast place - the
Valley of Megiddo. But for what
purpose?
23. Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD - for punishment, for the manifestation of His greatness, for the deliverance of His people.
Ezekiel 39:1. Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 2. And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: 3. And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand. 4. Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. 5. Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
11. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of
graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and
it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and
all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. 12. And seven
months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the
land. 13. Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to
them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD. 17. And,
thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak
unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble
yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do
sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye
may eat flesh, and drink blood. 18. Ye
shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the
earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of
Bashan. 19. And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be
drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20. Thus ye shall
be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all
men of war, saith the Lord GOD. 21. And I
will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment
that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them 22. So the
house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and
forward
Ezekiel 32:21. The strong
among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that
help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword. 22. Asshur is
there and all her company: his graves are about him: all of them slain, fallen
by the sword: 23. Whose
graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her
grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land
of the living. 26. There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves
are round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they
caused their terror in the land of the living. 30. There be the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, which are gone down with the
slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie
uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword, and bear their shame with
them that go down to the pit
This prophecy also confirms that Gog and Asshur are one
and the same. This prophecy also applies to the Antichrist:
Habakkuk 2:2. And the
LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables,
that he may run that readeth it. 3. For the vision is yet for an appointed
time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely
come, it will not tarry. 8. Because thou
hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee;
because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of
all that dwell therein. 10. Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting
off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul. 11. For the stone shall
cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. 12. Woe to
him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity! 17. For the violence of Lebanon shall cover
thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood,
and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein
Gog is the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, that is, the leader of the
wild pagan lands of the north. His barbarian hordes repeatedly penetrated the
Caucasus Mountains and devastated the lands of the south. In 626 BCE, Syria,
Palestine, and the surrounding countries suffered particularly severely from
one of these raids. The barbarians then reached almost Jerusalem. In recent
times, they, along with other peoples (and perhaps even at their head), will
launch a desperate attack on the people of God. Rosh refers to Russia, Meshech
to Moscow or Muscovy, and Tubal to the tribes along the shores of the Black
Sea.
Magog is the son of Japheth. In two places in the Bible, this name is
associated with Gog, so that the word Gog appears as the name of a king over
Magog, a people, or a country. From this evidence, it is clear that the word
Magog signifies a country, just as Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal stand next to it.
That Gog, at the head of the people of Magog, must one day come from the north
and invade the land of Israel. This invasion will fulfill Divine judgment on
Gog, whose entire army will be exterminated and buried in a place named, in
memory of this event, the Valley of the Hordes of Gog. According to Gesenius,
the words Gog and Magog refer to the same northern people whom the ancient
Greeks called Scythians. Gesenius says that the Arabs call them Vajuj and Majuj
and relate many fables about Gog and Magog. The most eminent philologists
maintain that the syllable "ma" in the word Magog signifies a
country. There is no doubt that over the centuries these names became symbolic
for all northern peoples, which include both the Scythian tribes and the later
Slavs, Tatars, etc.
Noah prophesied that the descendants of the sons of
Japheth (Magog) would spread widely throughout the land, occupy the territory
of Israel, and enslave the entire country:
Genesis 9:27. God shall
enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be
his servant
Genesis 10:2. The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras
Tubal - a) the son of Japheth, the son of Noah. b) the name of the people who,
with Jфvan or Rosh and
Meshech, were in the land of Magog under the dominion of Gog and who carried on
trade with Tyre, "Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with thee (Tyre),
bartering thy merchandise for the lives of men and for copper vessels"
(Ezekiel 27:13). Meshech (domain) is the name of two persons: a) the sixth of
the sons of Japheth (Genesis 10:2), the forefather of the Moschites, a people
who dwelt between the Black and Caspian Seas, who carried on trade with Tyre,
"bartering merchandise for the lives of men and for copper vessels" (Ezekiel
27:13). b) (1 Chronicles 1:17) of the sons of Aram, the son of Shem, called in
Genesis 10:23 by the name Mash.
In the prophecy of Ezekiel, the name Mosoch is first linked with Ros ("head" or "chief") and Gog ("roof," "expansion"); Magog ("spread," "expansion") already appears in the book of Genesis alongside Mosoch among the sons of Japheth, who was the second son after Gomer. The final biblical fate of Mosoch, who became part of the union of Gog and Magog, is described in the final book of the New Testament, the Book of Revelation – the Apocalypse.
Psalms 110:5. The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through
kings in the day of his wrath - Day of
Judgment, the destruction of the northern (pagan) kingdoms
6. He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the
places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries - death of the Antichrist, the head, or Gog, or Rosh.
The land is vast – the valley of Megiddo.
At the beginning of the 18th century, A. A. Mankiev, in The Core of Russian History, advocated the "Moscow - Mosoch" theory: "Mosoch or Mesech was the patriarch and founder of the Muscovite, Russian, Polish, Volynian, Czech, Mazovian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Croatian, and all other peoples who use the common Slavic language... Over time, these peoples, descended from Mosoch, due to the mixing of other peoples and the border, or for various campaigns and wars here and there, neglecting their old name, were called and written by their prince Rus, who led his creation from Mosoch... and their state was Russia. From that great glory, these Mosoch's heirs... were called Slavs."
